"Greed" (2018) was developed over 9 weeks as a response to the research of Oxford's Structural Genomics Consortium . My motivations were political and the work changed extensively over the development period. From burning symbols of minion hats to disembodying the voice of Cheryl Cole, the piece settles on telling a story through three different perspectives.
We start with a black hole, a reminder that we are not the all-powerful centres of the universe we think we are. The video then discusses the idea that Utopias are not a place, but a state of mind. What could the world achieve if we united as a global workforce? We finish with disgust, revealing mass-culture to be the uncaring disease that it is.
The work was installed at the Radcliffe Science Library, Oxford as part of a group show called "Diffraction".
